Etsy Shop Announcement Examples: 14 to Copy, by Situation
October 15, 2026
A good Etsy shop announcement tells a shopper what is true about your shop right now, in two to four short lines: a sale, a holiday cutoff, a vacation, a processing delay, or how custom orders work. Below are Etsy shop announcement examples sorted by situation, so you can find the one that matches your week, change the dates and product words, and paste it in. After the examples there is a short formula for writing your own and the exact steps to add or edit the announcement on Etsy.com and in the Seller app.
What the shop announcement is for
Etsy’s own help page puts it in one sentence, as of October 2026:
Your shop announcement appears under the listings on your shop homepage. You can update your announcement to alert shoppers to important information like a sale or if you are away on vacation.
The same page adds one piece of advice: “Keep your announcement short and sweet.” It also points the longer material elsewhere: “You can add more detailed information to your About section, public profile, shop policies, and item descriptions.”
So the announcement is a noticeboard. It is the place for news with a date on it. Your story belongs in the About section, your rules belong in your policies, and the facts about each product belong in that product’s description.
If a line in your announcement would still be true in a year, it probably belongs somewhere else.
A four-part formula
Most strong announcements answer these, in this order, and stop:
- What is happening. A sale, a break, a new collection, a delay.
- When. Real dates, never “soon” or “this week” with no week attached.
- What the shopper should do. Order by a date, use a code, message you first.
- A thank-you or a sign-off, one line at most, and only if you have room.
If your shop language is not English, add one more line at the top. Etsy notes that in that case “the date may not update to reflect when you made your new shop announcement”, and suggests adding the date manually to the first line so buyers can see when you wrote it.
Vacation and away announcements
These are the ones sellers search for most, because a vacation without a notice turns into late orders and unhappy messages.
1. Shop open, shipping paused
Away from the studio March 3 to March 12. You can still order: everything placed in that window ships from March 13, in the order it came in. Messages will be answered when I’m back. Thank you for your patience!
2. Short break, shop in vacation mode
The shop is resting until April 2 while I restock and take a short break. Favourite anything you’d like and it will be waiting when the doors reopen.
3. Family emergency or unplanned time off
Processing is slower than usual this month due to a family matter. Orders placed now take about 10 business days to ship, up from the usual 3. Thank you for understanding.
Notice what each one includes: the dates, what happens to an order placed today, and when messages get answered. That is the information a buyer needs to decide whether to order now.
Sale and coupon announcements
4. A storewide sale
AUTUMN SALE: 20% off everything until October 31. No code needed, the price is already reduced at checkout.
5. A coupon code
Use code WELCOME10 for 10% off your first order. Valid on all candles and wax melts through November 15.
6. A free shipping threshold
Free shipping on US orders over $35. Mix and match anything in the shop.
Keep the sale details identical to what you set up in Shop Manager. If the announcement says 20% and the sale is set to 15%, the shopper finds out at checkout, which is the worst place to find out.
Holiday cutoff announcements
7. Christmas order deadline
Ordering for Christmas? Place personalised orders by December 8 and ready-to-ship items by December 15 for delivery before December 25 within the US. Orders after those dates will still ship, but we can’t promise holiday arrival.
8. Mother’s Day or Valentine’s Day
Mother’s Day is May 10. Order custom necklaces by April 28 to have them arrive in time. Ready-to-ship pieces can be ordered until May 4.
Split the cutoff by product type when your listings have different processing times. A personalised item and a ready-to-ship item rarely share a deadline, and one date for both is wrong for one of them.
New shop and new collection announcements
9. Brand new shop
Welcome! We’re a two-person studio making hand-thrown stoneware mugs and bowls in Vermont. New pieces are added every Friday. Favourite the shop to see them first.
10. New collection launch
NEW: the Winter Botanicals print collection is live, eight designs in A4 and A3. Find them in the “Winter 2026” section.
11. Restock notice
The linen aprons are back in all five colours. The rust colour sold out in two days last time, so if it’s the one you want, don’t wait.
A new shop announcement can carry a sentence of who you are, because nobody knows you yet. Once the shop has reviews, move that sentence into the About section and use the announcement for news again.
Custom order and processing announcements
12. How custom orders work
Custom orders: message me before buying with your size, colour and any text you’d like. I usually reply the same day with a quote and a listing made just for you.
13. Current processing time
Current processing time is 5 to 7 business days for all personalised pieces. Ready-to-ship items usually go out in 1 to 2 business days.
14. Supplier or materials delay
Some walnut pieces are delayed by a late wood delivery. Affected listings show the new ship date in the description. Everything else ships on time.
Which example fits your week
| Situation | Use example | The one fact it must carry |
|---|---|---|
| Going away, still taking orders | 1 | The date shipping resumes |
| Closing the shop for a break | 2 | The reopening date |
| Unplanned slowdown | 3 | The new processing time |
| Running a sale | 4 or 5 | The end date and the discount |
| Free shipping offer | 6 | The order threshold |
| Holiday season | 7 or 8 | One cutoff per product type |
| New shop | 9 | What you make, in plain words |
| New products | 10 or 11 | Where to find them |
| Custom work | 12 | What to send you first |
| Long processing times | 13 or 14 | The real number of days |
How to add or edit your Etsy shop announcement
These are Etsy’s own steps, as of October 2026.
On Etsy.com:
- Go to your Shop Manager.
- Select the pencil icon next to your shop name under Sales Channels.
- Go to the Announcement section.
- Select Add a shop announcement or Edit.
- Add your announcement.
- Choose Save.
In the Etsy Seller app:
- Select More from the navigation bar.
- Scroll to Shop settings.
- Select Shop appearance.
- Select Shop announcement.
- Add your announcement.
- Choose Save.
One catch from the same page: if your shop is not open to the public yet, you cannot add an announcement until you open it. Write it ahead of time and paste it in on opening day.
Mistakes that make an announcement useless
- It is out of date. “Back on June 4” in August tells every visitor the shop is not looked after. Put a reminder in your calendar for the day the news expires.
- It is the shop’s whole story. Three paragraphs about how you started belong in the About section, where the reader went looking for them.
- It repeats your policies. Returns and exchanges live in the policies, which is where a careful buyer goes to check them.
- It has no dates. “Shipping delays this week” with no week is a guess for the reader.
- It is stuffed with keywords. A shopper reads the announcement on your shop homepage. The words that help buyers find you belong in your shop title, your listing titles and your tags.
When an announcement is enough, and when it isn’t
For most shop news, the announcement is all you need: a vacation, a sale, a cutoff. Writing one takes five minutes and you do not need a tool for it.
It stops being enough when the news changes the listings themselves. A longer processing time, a new size, a changed material or a holiday deadline that applies to personalised pieces only should also show up in the listing a buyer actually reads, because many buyers arrive on a listing from search and never see your shop homepage at all.
That part is where the work piles up. Updating twenty descriptions by hand for one change is slow, and it is easy to miss one. ListingBrief AI writes an Etsy title, 13 tags and a description from a few lines of notes about a product, so you can regenerate a listing with the new facts in it rather than editing each paragraph. You can try the free Etsy title generator or the free Etsy tag generator without an account. When you are refreshing many listings at once, bulk listing on Etsy covers the routes Etsy gives you, and how to edit a listing on Etsy covers what to change first.
Quick checklist before you save
- Does the first line say what is happening?
- Is every date a real date?
- Does it tell the shopper what to do?
- Does the sale or code match what is set up in Shop Manager?
- Have you set a reminder to change it when the news expires?
If all five are yes, save it. Then look at your shop homepage as a buyer would and read it once more, because it sits under your listings and that is where shoppers will meet it.
