How to Get More Views on Etsy: Find the Cause, Then Fix It
September 26, 2026
To get more views on Etsy, start by finding out where your current views come from, then fix the part that is weakest. For most shops that means making listings easier for Etsy search to match: titles that use the words buyers type, all 13 tags filled with different phrases, every attribute completed, and a first photo that reads clearly as a small thumbnail. Views from outside Etsy (social posts, your own site, ads) add on top, but they rarely make up for listings that search cannot find. This guide walks through the diagnosis first, because the fix depends on the cause.
A listing with no views has a different problem from a listing with views and no sales. The first is about being found. The second is about what happens after the click. Mixing the two up is the most common way to spend a weekend on the wrong fix.
Step 1: read where your views come from
Before changing anything, open Stats in Shop Manager and look at two things for the last 30 days.
- Traffic sources. Etsy splits visits into sources such as Etsy search, Etsy app and other Etsy pages, Etsy Ads, social media and direct or other traffic. This tells you which door people use to reach you.
- Search terms. For visits from Etsy search, Stats lists the terms shoppers typed before they clicked. These are real words from real buyers, and they are the best raw material you have.
Then open the per-listing view and sort your listings by views. You will usually find a few listings carrying the shop and a long tail with almost nothing.
| What you see in Stats | What it usually means | Where to look first |
|---|---|---|
| Very few views across the whole shop | Search rarely shows your listings | Titles, tags, attributes, category |
| A few listings get views, most get none | The weak listings are thin or vague | Rewrite the weak ones using the strong ones as a model |
| Views are fine, sales are not | The click happens, the decision does not | Photos, price, description, shipping |
| Views dropped suddenly | Something changed | Recent edits, seasonality, a listing that expired |
| Almost all views are from social or direct | Your own audience finds you, search does not | Listing text, then search terms |
Step 2: make each listing easier for search to match
Etsy search can only match your listing against the words and details you give it. Nobody outside Etsy knows exactly how it weighs each field, so the safe approach is simple: make every field complete, specific and written the way shoppers search.
Titles that say what the item is
Your title has up to 140 characters. Lead with what the item actually is, in the words a buyer would type, then add the details that separate it: material, colour, size, style, occasion. Say each idea once. A title stuffed with the same phrase three ways reads badly in a search grid and gives search nothing new.
Our guide on how to write an Etsy title goes through this field by field.
All 13 tags, all different
Each listing gets 13 tags of up to 20 characters. Use all of them, and make each one a multi-word phrase covering a different angle: what it is, who it is for, the occasion, the style, the material. Check your Stats search terms and turn the ones that fit into tags. A tag that only repeats your category or an attribute you already filled in is a wasted slot.
The Etsy tags guide covers how to spread 13 tags across angles without repeating yourself.
Category and attributes
Pick the most specific category that fits, then fill in every attribute Etsy offers for it: colour, material, occasion, style and the rest. Shoppers use these as filters. An empty attribute means your listing drops out of every search where a buyer applied that filter, however good your title is.
A description that opens with the item
Open with one plain sentence saying what the item is and who it suits, then give the details buyers check: size, materials, care, what is included, and how it ships. Etsy shows the start of the description in some places, and a shopper who clicks through wants the answer fast. See how to write Etsy product descriptions for a structure that works.
Step 3: fix what happens after the click
If a listing gets views but few sales, the text did its job. Now look at the rest.
- First photo. It must read clearly at thumbnail size, on a phone. Show the item itself, well lit, with nothing cluttering the frame.
- Price and shipping together. Buyers compare the total. A low price with high shipping can look worse than a higher price with free shipping.
- Processing time and policies. Fill them in completely. Blank or vague answers make a buyer hesitate.
- Reviews. You cannot write these, but you can make them more likely: ship on time, pack well, and reply to messages quickly.
Step 4: add views from outside Etsy search
Once your listings are in good shape, outside traffic adds to it rather than covering for it.
- Etsy Ads. Paid placement inside Etsy search. Start small, on listings that already convert, and watch the cost against sales in your Stats.
- Social media. Pinterest and Instagram suit visual products. Link straight to a listing, not just to the shop.
- Your own list. Past buyers who opted in are the cheapest repeat views you will get.
- Sales and coupons. Etsy lets you run sales and send offers to people who favourited an item. These help a listing that is already being found.
Etsy also runs Offsite Ads, where it advertises listings on other sites and charges a fee on resulting orders. Read Etsy’s current terms for your shop before counting on it.
How to get more views on Etsy across many listings
The steps above are easy for one listing and slow for fifty. The usual pattern is that a seller fixes their five best listings, then stalls, because rewriting titles and filling 13 tags by hand for the rest is a blank page every time.
A few ways to keep going:
- Work one listing a day. Sort by views, start with the weakest listing in your best-selling category, and do one before anything else. Forty days later the shop is done.
- Batch by product type. Listings for similar products share most of their tag angles. Do all the earrings in one sitting, then all the prints.
- Use a template for descriptions. Same order every time: what it is, who it suits, size, materials, care, what is included, shipping.
- Let a tool draft the text. Then you edit rather than write from nothing.
| Approach | Good for | Cost to you |
|---|---|---|
| By hand, one a day | Small shops, sellers who enjoy writing | Time, steadily |
| Batch by product type | Shops with repeated product families | A few focused sessions |
| Templates for descriptions | Anyone with many similar items | An hour to set up |
| A drafting tool | Large or growing catalogues | A subscription, or a free tier |
When the manual way is enough
If you have a small shop, know your buyers well and your Stats already show steady search traffic, you do not need a tool. The checklist below and half an hour a day will do it. Most view problems are fixed by completing fields that were left thin, and that needs attention more than software.
A tool starts paying off when the number of listings grows faster than your writing time, or when tags are the job you keep putting off.
Doing it faster with ListingBrief AI
ListingBrief AI turns a few lines of product notes into an Etsy title, 13 tags and a description that opens with what the item is, and checks them against Etsy’s limits on title length, tag count and tag length before you copy them across. You can generate one listing at a time, paste a list of products for a bulk batch, or use the Chrome extension to generate inside the Etsy listing editor and fill the fields directly. To try it without an account, the free Etsy tag generator and Etsy title generator each draft one listing’s worth.
It will not take your photos, set your prices, fill your attributes or read your Stats for you. Those steps stay yours. What it removes is the blank title and tag fields, which is where refreshing a whole shop usually stalls.
