How to Connect Shopify to Etsy: Sync Apps, Steps and What Not to Sync

To connect Shopify to Etsy, install an Etsy integration app from the Shopify App Store, sign in to your Etsy seller account from inside the app, and click Grant access when Etsy asks. The app then imports your Etsy listings into Shopify (or pushes Shopify products to Etsy) and keeps stock, prices and orders in step between the two. Neither Shopify nor Etsy ships a built-in link to the other, so an app is the connection. The part people get wrong is not the connection. It is copying the same title and description to both platforms, when each one is searched differently. This guide covers both halves.

App names and prices below are read from each app’s Shopify App Store listing as of September 2026. Apps change plans often, so check the listing before you install.

Why there is no built-in connection

Shopify has its own multichannel app, Shopify Marketplace Connect. Its App Store listing names Amazon, Target Plus, Walmart and eBay as the marketplaces it sells on, as of September 2026. Etsy is not among them. Etsy, for its part, does not offer a Shopify sync of its own.

So every Shopify to Etsy connection runs through a third-party app that holds access to both accounts. That is normal and safe enough: Etsy’s permission screen shows exactly what the app may read and change, and you can revoke it later from your Etsy account settings.

What a sync app actually keeps in step

Before choosing one, decide which of these you need. Most apps sell them as separate tiers.

If you only sell a handful of made-to-order items, inventory sync alone may be all you need.

Etsy integration apps compared

App Cheapest paid plan What that plan covers Higher tiers add
QuickSync $19/month Inventory syncing Product and order syncing at $29/month; setup done for you at $69 and $99
CedCommerce Etsy Integration $9/month List up to 10 products 200 products and 100 orders a month at $29; 1,000 products and 500 orders at $59
SP Etsy Importer & Sync $9.99/month Importing and syncing listings A $19.99/month tier

All three are free to install and list a free plan, as of September 2026. The paid tiers are where the product and order limits sit, so count your listings before picking one. Annual billing is offered on some plans at a discount.

Pick by the job, not the brand. If overselling is the worry, the cheapest inventory-only tier answers it. If you want to build your Shopify catalogue from Etsy in one go, you need product import. If you want one place to ship from, you need order sync.

How to connect Shopify to Etsy, step by step

The screens differ a little between apps, but the order is the same everywhere.

  1. Check your Etsy shop is open. Connect a shop that is open for business, not one in vacation mode or still being set up.
  2. Install the app. In your Shopify admin, open the App Store, search “Etsy integration”, choose one and click Install.
  3. Connect Etsy. The app sends you to Etsy’s sign-in page. Sign in with the seller account and click Grant access.
  4. Choose the direction. Decide whether Etsy or Shopify is the source. If your catalogue lives on Etsy today, import Etsy to Shopify. If you are adding Etsy to an existing Shopify store, push Shopify to Etsy.
  5. Map the fields. Match Shopify product types to Etsy categories, and Shopify options to Etsy variations. Etsy also asks for fields Shopify does not have, such as who made the item and when it was made. Fill these in or the listing will not publish.
  6. Turn on inventory sync, and test it: sell or adjust one item and watch the count change on the other side.
  7. Start small. Sync five products, check them on both sites, then do the rest.

What not to sync: the listing copy

Here is where a connected shop quietly loses sales. A sync app copies text, and the two platforms reward different text.

Field What Etsy search rewards What Shopify and Google reward
Title Keyword-led, up to 140 characters, most important words first A readable product name a person would say out loud
Tags 13 tags of up to 20 characters, each a phrase buyers type No equivalent; Shopify tags are for your own filtering
Description Answers the buyer’s questions, first lines shown in search Longer, benefit-led, plus a separate SEO title and meta description
Categories Etsy category and attributes Product type and collections

An Etsy title pasted into Shopify reads like a list of keywords, and a Shopify product name pasted into Etsy is too short to be found. So when you push products across, treat the synced text as a placeholder and rewrite the title, description and search fields for the platform you are sending it to. Most apps let you edit a listing after sync without breaking the link, and some let you exclude the title and description from future updates. Check that setting before you rewrite anything, or the next sync will overwrite your work.

Writing both versions faster

Rewriting two sets of copy for every product is the slowest part of running both shops. There are three ways to do it.

  1. By hand, with a template. Keep one note per product listing its materials, size, audience and use. Write the Etsy version from it, then the Shopify version. Our Etsy listing template gives you the fill-in-the-blank shape.
  2. With a general chatbot. It can draft both, but you have to supply the rules each time: the 140-character title, 13 tags under 20 characters, the SEO fields. Our guide to ChatGPT for Etsy listings has prompts and checks.
  3. With a listing generator built for both. ListingBrief AI takes your rough product notes and writes the Etsy title within the character limit, all 13 tags, a description, and the Shopify fields alongside: title, SEO title, SEO description, product type, variants and collections. Its free Chrome extension can fill the Etsy and Shopify listing forms in place. Every account gets 5 free generations a day, and Pro is $9.99 a month for unlimited fair-use generation.

ListingBrief does not connect your shops or sync stock. It writes the copy. Use a sync app for the connection and a writer for the words.

When the manual way is enough

You may not need an app at all.

For a larger catalogue, both platforms take CSV imports, covered in our guide to bulk listing on Etsy.

Common problems after connecting

The short version

Install an Etsy integration app, grant it access on Etsy, choose which side is the source, map the fields and test with a few products. Sync stock, orders and photos freely. Write the title, tags and description separately for each platform, because Etsy and Shopify are searched differently, and a connected shop only helps if people can find it on both.
