Marmalead vs Sale Samurai: Scored Data, or Everything for One Price?
September 22, 2026
Marmalead vs Sale Samurai comes down to one trade you have to make up front: Marmalead scores Etsy keyword data for you and charges $19 a month with no free way in, while Sale Samurai hands you every feature it has for $19.99 a month and lets you evaluate the whole thing without a card. Both are Etsy keyword and listing research tools, both read real marketplace data, and neither writes your listing for you. If you are still deciding whether keyword research changes your sales, start with Sale Samurai, because its 3-day trial answers that question for free. If you already know it does and you want the data interpreted rather than listed, Marmalead is the one built for that, and its $300 lifetime licence is the cheapest long-term way to own either tool.
This article reads each company’s own pricing page as of September 2026, puts the plans side by side, and says plainly which seller should pick which.
Every price, plan name and limit below was read from Marmalead’s and Sale Samurai’s own pricing pages in September 2026. These change; open the page before you subscribe.

What Marmalead costs, and what you get for it
Marmalead sells one plan with four ways to pay, as of September 2026:
| Marmalead billing | Price | Effective rate | What the page says |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $19 paid monthly | $19/mo | “Subscribe to a monthly plan and access the best Etsy data” |
| Quarterly | $53 paid quarterly | $18/mo | “Save $16 or 7% yearly” |
| Annual | $190 paid annually | $16/mo | “Save $38 or 16% annually” |
| Lifetime | $300 paid once | One-time | “Pay once, save $840 (73%) over 5 years” |
There are no tiers to compare and no daily caps to reason about. There is also no free plan and no trial on the pricing page, which is the single most important fact about Marmalead for a seller who has not used a research tool before: the only way to find out whether it helps you is to pay for a month.
What the $19 buys is opinion rather than raw numbers. The pricing page describes MarmaMeters, which rate how much a keyword is searched, how much it is engaged with and how contested it is, in a “cell phone bars” style presentation: low bars bad, full bars good. It claims accuracy on how often a keyword is searched (“We know how many searches there are for a given keyword”) and “Accurate engagement” (“We know how many listing views came from a specific keyword”). On top of that sit Keyword Seasonality (“over a year’s worth of activity for every keyword”) and Keyword Forecasting: “Gaze 3 months into the future to know how a keyword is going to perform before you use it.” Your own listings come back with a letter grade, broken down into SEO Factors and Sales Factors.
The most recommended Etsy SEO product by leaders
That line is Marmalead’s own framing of itself, and the shape of the product matches it: it is built to tell you whether a keyword is good, not just how big it is.
What Sale Samurai costs, and what you get for it
Sale Samurai’s pricing page shows two boxes as of October 2026, under the heading “Simple Pricing” and the line “All features included. No hidden costs. Start with a 3-day free trial.”
| Sale Samurai plan | Price | What the page says it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $19.99/mo | Products with proven demand, real Etsy demand and trend data, high-ranking keywords, “Spy on top-selling listings”, “Free Chrome extension included”, shop analytics dashboard |
| Yearly | $16.65/mo, “Billed as $199.90 yearly” | “Everything in Monthly”, “Two months free, every year”, priority support, “Lock in your lowest price” |
Sale Samurai has no feature tiers. There is one paid product and the only decision is monthly or yearly. Every plan carries a 3-day trial with full access, and the FAQ is explicit: “No credit card required to sign up. If you love it, choose a plan after the trial ends. Cancel anytime during or after the trial with no questions asked.”
Neither has a free plan. The three-day full-access trial, though, means you can evaluate the entire product without handing over a payment method, the thing Marmalead has no equivalent of.
Where the two genuinely differ
On money, they are nearly the same price and completely different purchases. $19 against $19.99 monthly, $16 against $16.65 at the annual rate: close enough to ignore. The real difference is at the two ends. At the cheap end, Sale Samurai has a $0 door and Marmalead has none. At the expensive end, Marmalead has a $300 one-time lifetime licence and Sale Samurai has nothing like it. Pay $199.90 a year for Sale Samurai and after eighteen months you have spent more than Marmalead’s lifetime price, for ever.
On the data, Marmalead interprets and Sale Samurai enumerates. MarmaMeters, letter grades, seasonality and the three-month forecast all exist to hand you a judgement. Sale Samurai’s own pitch is coverage (demand figures, trends, competitor listings, a Chrome extension that works while you browse Etsy), and it leaves the judgement to you. Neither is better in the abstract; a seller who wants to see the working will find Marmalead’s scoring opaque, and a seller who freezes in front of a table of numbers will get more out of the bars.
On writing the listing, neither one is really in that business. Marmalead’s AI, per its pricing page, gives an “AI Description Critique” of a description you already wrote and generates FAQs for it. That is feedback on your copy, not your copy. Sale Samurai’s plan copy is about finding and analysing, not drafting. If your listings are already being found and what stalls you is the title, the thirteen tags and the description, both of these tools will hand you a keyword list and leave the writing exactly where it was.
Who should stay with Marmalead
Do not switch away from Marmalead if:
- You hold the $300 lifetime licence. It has no recurring cost, and nothing here is cheaper over any timescale. Keep it running whatever else you add.
- You rely on the scoring. The letter grades, MarmaMeters, seasonality view and three-month forecast are the things you cannot buy from Sale Samurai at any price.
- You are an established seller who already knows research pays. The absence of a free plan is only a problem for someone still deciding; if you already decided years ago, it costs you nothing.
- You sell seasonal products. A year of history plus a forward forecast is aimed squarely at deciding what to list in August for November.
Who should pick Sale Samurai
- You have not proven to yourself that keyword research moves your sales. The 3-day card-free trial makes this the cheap experiment. Marmalead’s equivalent experiment costs $19.
- You want everything switched on for one price. No tiers, no daily allowances, no deciding which module you are paying for.
- You work inside Etsy pages rather than a dashboard. The Chrome extension is included rather than sold as a tier feature.
- You care about what other listings are doing. “Spy on top-selling listings” is a first-class part of the product rather than a side effect of keyword research.
How to switch, either direction
- Open Sale Samurai’s free door first. The 3-day trial needs no card, so you can see its data next to whatever you have now for nothing.
- Export your saved keywords before you cancel anything. Both tools keep your saved lists behind the subscription; a list you can paste into a spreadsheet survives a cancellation and a list you left in the app does not.
- Run the same five keywords through both. Not fifty: five you already sell against. The disagreement between two tools on a keyword you know is more informative than either tool’s number alone.
- Give the new one a full month on your real listings. Both are judged by whether your traffic moved, and a week does not answer that.
- If you are leaving Marmalead, decide about the lifetime licence first. Cancelling a subscription is reversible; passing on a one-time price is a decision you may pay for monthly afterwards.
The thing both of them leave you to do
Here is what a feature table hides. Both tools end at the same place: a list of keywords and a note that your listing scores badly. Turning that into a 140-character title that reads like a sentence, thirteen tags inside Etsy’s 20-character limit with no duplicates, and a description that survives a skim: that is still your evening.
That is the job ListingBrief AI is built around. There are three free tools (an Etsy title generator, an Etsy tag generator and a Shopify description generator), each of which drafts one field from your rough product notes, with no account and no card, following what the marketplace publishes about that field: its character limit, how many you get, and what belongs in it. Signing in gives you 5 free generations of a full listing a day, refreshed daily. Pro is $9.99 a month, or $99.99 a year, with unlimited fair-use generations and no per-listing charge. It does not do keyword research, seasonality, forecasts or competitor tracking. If you need those, you still need Marmalead or Sale Samurai, and this sits beside them rather than replacing them.
The short answer
If you need the data judged for you and you already know research is worth paying for, Marmalead, and if you expect to still be selling on Etsy in three years, buy the $300 lifetime licence rather than the subscription. If you need to find out whether any of this helps, or you want every feature for one flat price with a Chrome extension in it, Sale Samurai, and go yearly once you are sure, because $199.90 is the cheaper way to hold it.
And if your listings are already getting found and the part that actually stalls you is writing them, neither tool is aimed at that. Our free tools will tell you in a couple of minutes whether that is your real problem.
